COVID-19 Impact on Home Care by the Numbers

HCA last week shared with state health officials the findings of a home care provider survey on COVID-19. It uncovered that the vast majority of home and community-based providers (68%) do not have access to adequate personal protective equipment in their COVID-19 response.

COVID-19 Updates: Governor Issues Executive Order Pertaining to Home Care and Other Health Providers, and More

Tonight, Governor Cuomo announced Executive Order 202.5 which suspends and modifies regulations and laws related to home care services, among others. It follows two previous Executive Orders that included other regulatory changes, as summarized on HCA’s COVID-19 resource page. It also follows yet another guidance issued by the state Department of Health earlier today specifically for home and community-based providers.

COVID-19: Respond Now on Survey for Urgent DOH Assistance Request

Discussions have escalated in the last 24 hours on long-sought state COVID-19 guidance and assistance for home care and hospice. Throughout the weekend, HCA has again discussed with state officials a list of pressing requests for regulatory relief waivers, priority access to supplies, procedural guidance, and financial support to help providers amid the pandemic.

COVID-19 Update: CMS Survey Guidance for Home Care and Hospice, Face Masks, Emergency Regs

The Home Care Association of New York State awaits an official state guidance on COVID-19 for home and community-based service providers The federal government has issued specific infection-control guidance for home care and hospice, components of which would also be a factor in any forthcoming state guidance, in addition to questions or concerns raised by HCA and others from the field.

HCA Meets with DOH on COVID-19

As the spread of novel coronavirus intensifies in New York, HCA staff and members held a March 6 conference call with the state Department of Health’s (DOH) Office of Primary Care and Health Systems Management and Office of Health Emergency Preparedness to discuss the unique issues that home care, hospice and Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) plans are facing in preparedness, response and continuity of operations planning amid the global COVID-19 threat.
